About Botox ® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA): Botox ® Cosmetic is a purified protein that is administered by a physician to temporarily reduce facial wrinkles. It works by blocking nerve impulses; this reduces the movement of skin attached muscles, allowing for a smoother, more youthful and relaxed facial appearance. Botox was first used medically in1976, and first used for cosmetic reasons in the mid 1992. It was FDA approved for use in the glabell in 2002. It is a proven and safe product lasting up to 4 months. The amounts used are determined by examination and are administered by a few tiny injections into the muscles that cause those disconcerting wrinkles.
There are basically two ways of billing for Botox. The first is by area which includes:1) the forehead, 2) lid lift, 3) Glabella “11’s”, and 4) crow’s feet . These 4 areas are what are usually termed a “full face”. Pricing per area is usually a flat price per area. We bill the second way, which is based on a standard price per unit which is much more personalized to need.
Our usual price per unit is $8.50.
The typical female client will require 36 to 46 units for a full face treatment. Not everyone wants or needs a full face treatment and areas may be treated separately. For females, the average units needed for the forehead, including the “lid lift” is 12 to 20; for the “frown” (glabella) area are 16 to 24 units, and for crow’s feet 4 to 16 units. This means a minimum cost would be $306.00. The number of units that a given person requires is determined after an examination. Not everyone will be well served by the minimum dose. If after 2 weeks, more is needed, it can be given then.
The typical requirement of Botox® for gentlemen is almost always at least doubled the amount needed by women. This is because of the more substantial facial musculature of their faces..
The duration of the effect of Botox® is somewhat variable. Shorter benefit may be realized by persons who are extremely physically active. Longer benefit can be the result of repeated treatments. The typical length of benefit is three months. Botox® re-administration should optimally occur when the appearance of muscle contraction begins to return.
For new patients, we would ask that the paperwork be filled out by the time the appointment is set to begin. This will allow us to ensure smooth patient flow and a predictable timeline for our patients. We can treat three patients per hour with Botox.
Tissue Fillers: New patients who may be interested in tissue fillers will need to be seen for preliminary consultation before scheduling the procedure. Because of special anesthesia needs, filler appointment times will be longer than for Botox®. Patients may get preliminary information Juvederm® and Radiesse® on the respective websites. All our fillers are competitively priced. A typical consultation with paperwork filled out beforehand should take 15 to 20 minutes.
